Wine choices definitely change during winter the months. This is predominantly due to the fact that during this season our diet changes, therefore so does the wine we pair.
Although it is understood that wines can be drunk at any time of the year, it is true that the colder weather and drop in temperatures does in fact promote wines with rather a more deep structure and complexity rather than the light and fresh enjoyed during summer months.
However, while winter wines should make you feel cosy, comforted and warm there is a common misconception that they need to be red. Any colour can be a winter warmer so long as it conforms to the basics of offering a basic level of acidity and a fuller body.
